Current Events & Sociology Assignment

Find an article online or in print that describes a current event and in some way relates to a sociology topic or concept we've discussed so far this semester.  Go beyond an article right off of the front page of cnn.com.  Dig a little bit and find something that is a bit lesser known.  Then write up a one paragraph summary of the article and a short paragraph (three to four sentences) explaining how your article relates to our sociology course.  You must bring in your article and written paragraph and be ready to share with the class.

Material and Nonmaterial Culture Project

Assignment: select a culture and research forms of material and nonmaterial culture from your selection.  You must find a minimum of 5 examples of each and then share images of those elements of culture.  You must also show the class where your culture is found geographically.  It would probably be best to create your presentation using a Google Powerpoint Presentation.  This is an informal presentation, but do quality work!  Once you are done creating the presentation share with me so that we can quickly transition from presentation to presentation during class.

Rubric:

-Minimum of 5 elements of Nonmaterial culture (beliefs, traditions, rituals, etc.) _____/5
